Funny Sayings from Kids: Some kids dressed up like 100 year olds for the 100th day of school.  One student that didn’t dress up said, “See, I’m old, too! I can’t see good, and I have to walk slow.” So apparently, those are the qualifications for being old.

For part of our 100 day celebrations, I asked students what they would do with $100.  Here are some of the classic responses that I recall: a limo, a mansion, the town, a DS, an iPad, Saint George (the city)—because it’s warm there, Charlie (my son), Mr. Smith’s family, Disneyland (that’s right, he would buy the whole park, not just tickets to go there), every toy ever made, everything, save it so I could be a rich man…In summary, suffice it to say that $100 just doesn’t go as far as it should.

Special Activities: This week we had 100 day.  Activities included: eating lunch in the classroom, students’ mystery bags with 100 of the same thing in them, talking about what we’d do with $100, estimating then measuring 100 feet, estimating 100 seconds, reading 100 day books, wearing 100 day glasses, writing about what life will be like when we’re 100, and watching counting from 1-100 music videos.  To end off 100 day, Mrs. Smith painted suncatchers with them for an art project.

Academics: This week in math we practiced adding dimes, nickels, and pennies.  Our reading and spelling focus was a review of our red words that cannot be sounded out.  In social studies, we reviewed how to be respectful to others.  This week for science, we watched a video about sharks.  We also did an experiment to see what electricity would and would not travel through to light a battery-powered light bulb.
