We had another great week!
Star of the week
Mr. Smith juggling for Hawaiin day
A student "wearing shorts"
Funny Sayings from Kids: I told students how I couldn’t copy an activity page that they had requested because the copier was down. One student said, “It’s okay. It was just being a mean copier.”
“My parents do whatever I say. That’s why they voted for Romney.”
“This re-raser (meaning eraser) doesn’t work very well!”
Students were asked not to wear shorts for Hawaiian day because of the weather. One student solved this by wearing shorts over his pants. First thing in the morning, he proudly said, “They said we couldn’t wear shorts, but look at this!’
Special Activities: This week we had a fun assembly that the school earned for good behavior. It was a Hawaiian assembly. Students got ice cream and learned a Hawaiian dance.
Academics: This week in math we practiced adding two digit numbers. That don’t require you to regroup (carry a one over). For example, we did 22+33=55 but not 22+39=61. In writing this week we practiced complete sentences by writing stories, including stories about what happened to the missing snowman. Our reading and spelling focus was cluster words (words with three consonants) such as string. In social studies, we learned about American Sign Language and the symbolism of our flag. In science, we did a fun experiment with static electricity to see how long a balloon would stick to the ceiling.
