Funny Sayings from Kids: I know there were some good ones this week, but I didn’t jot them down.  So if I remember them I’ll post them up

Special Activities: This week we had a few special activities.  Mrs. Smith came to teach art to the class, and they made valentine ladybugs.  A parent volunteer gave the students a lesson about thinking positive.  As an object lesson to see how kids would respond, she gave one person a flower pinwheel, but nobody else got one.  Then, after using it for an object lesson, she gave everyone a pinwheel.  Also, Thursday was the beginning of our “Pig Out on Books” week.  So it was our first dress up day, which was bug day.  Another activity the kids enjoyed was putting on fake nametags and calling each other that name for an afternoon.  This was a fun activity we did to practice reading names.  The kids enjoyed all these special activities this week.

Academics: This week in math we learned the term “congruent.”  We als practiced adding two digit numbers and counting by ten. In writing this week I introduced journal that we are going to try out for the next few weeks.  Our reading and spelling focus was ending blends (two consonants at the end of a word), such as sent.  In social studies, we learned about American Sign Language, and we reviewed what it means to be respectful to others.  In science, we learned about stilts.  They were invented to solve a problem—just like we’ve been learning about solving problems by thinking like a scientist.  I let students use my kid stilts to try it out,
