Week 12

Students getting ready for the play

Students preparing to go to the play

Aladdin Junior play at LIS

This was a successful and enjoyable week for our class!

Special Guests: THANK YOU!  As always, we really appreciate those who volunteer to help us.  A parent volunteer helped with our speedy words, like always.  We also had a parent come speak to the class about safety (wearing seatbelts, etc.).

Special activities; We attended the play “Aladdin Jr.” at LIS this week.  It was a blast!  Many of our students do not get to go to performances regularly, and they all thought it was an incredible treat.

Reminders: Next week is Thanksgiving, so school will be out at 11:45 on Wednesday.

Funny Stuff From Kids: I didn’t jot down any funny things that kids said this week, although I’m sure there were some good ones.

Homework: Please continue doing the weekly homework.  Students get a prize for every 8 homework assignments (one week’s worth) that they complete. . .Spelling is getting harder, and most kids really need the practice.

Social Studies: The kids have been fascinated by learning about the flood in Thailand, and they really want to help.  We will be planning a project the next few weeks to make Christmas ornaments to sell, so we can send the money to rebuild homes for children in Thailand.

Math: We’ve been discussing measurement.  We’ve mostly been measuring using paperclips, and the students have really enjoyed it.

Project Read/Spelling: This week we focused on l blends.  (That’s basically when l is the second later, such as sled, glob, flag, etc.)  The students did fairly well with spelling, but they didn’t do as well reading those combinations.

Speedy Words and Rocket Math: Everyone is doing excellent on their facts and instant words.

AR: Everyone is progressing on reaching the goal of 20 books for the next quarter.  Great job!

Writing: This week our writing was integrated into science.  They wrote about our experiments.  We also had a great lesson on neatness, and we will continue practicing it.

Science: This week we did a motion experiment.  I swung a bucket in a circle quickly over my head.  Most students thought the water would fall out, but if it’s done right the water stays in the bucket.  As always, we talked about the scientific method as we did this.  Students are continuing to practice and enjoy making hypotheses, doing experiments, and forming conclusions.
