We had a fun week of learning this week!
Thanks again: Parent teacher conferences were a huge success. Thanks for helping each kid in our class be successful!
Special Guests: THANK YOU to every volunteer and guest!!! A local police officer came this week to discuss gun safety with the kids. He showed a cartoon and talked about how it’s okay to be around guns if there’s an adult helping you be safe. Otherwise, you should do like Eddie Eagle says and “Stop. Don’t touch. Leave the area. Tell an adult.” The kids absolutely loved his presentation.
We also had a parent volunteer do art with us this week. I am creative, but I’m not very artistic. It was wonderful to have that parent help. The kids loved the lesson, and they made adorable pilgrims and edible turkeys.
Funny Stuff From Kids: We were practicing ou words, and one adorable student got patch mixed up with pouch. She said, “ That word is perfect for fall, just like a pumpkin pouch.”
During recess, one girl used the word “ain’t.” She was quickly corrected by one of her classmates who said, “Ain’t isn’t a word. . .well, it only is in Texas!”
One kid was fascinated with the veins in his body, and he said, “look at my vines!”
Homework: Please continue doing the weekly homework. Students get a prize for every 8 homework assignments (one week’s worth) that they complete. . .Spelling is getting harder, and most kids really need the practice.
Social Studies: The kids have been fascinated by learning about the flood in Thailand. We have watched youtube videos about it, and we will be wrapping up our discussion next week.
Math: We’ve been revisiting and focusing more deeply on subtraction. We’ve also began discussing how to add more than two things at a time.
Project Read/Spelling: This week we focused on sh and th, two of the four “h brothers.” Th sticks his tongue out and says, “thhh” to his younger brothers because he gets annoyed at them. Sh gets tired of his brothers making noise, so he says, “shhh.” The kids enjoyed this concept, and they did great on their tests.
Speedy Words and Rocket Math: Each student is progressing on their facts and instant words!
AR: Everyone is progressing on reaching the goal of 20 books for the next quarter. Great job!
Writing: This week we did thanksgiving writing, focusing on writing a complete sentence that they come up with on their own. I’m going to try to squeeze in more time for writing and start focusing more on neatness.
Science: This week we took apart a beater and made hypotheses about what the inside would look like. Then we learned how it works. The kids loved it, and I really felt like it renewed their spark for why learning can be a blast!
