This was another great week!

Funny Sayings from Kids: On the way to the swimming pool, a student explained how to get to his house. Keep in mind that this was in Lyman where there are blocks with many houses on them. “This is how you get to my house: you turn there. Then go a ways until you see a house with a car out front, and that’s it.”
This week we’ve been learning about our court system as explained below. One student was trying to use the word “jury” and he kept saying “jammer.”
“Let’s read 101 donations!” (meaning 101 Dalmations)
“One student was pretending to grade my work during indoor recess. He gave me what he considered was an excellent grade…F+!!!”
“I don’t need to go swimming, I already had a water fight with my sister this morning.”
During sharing, one student said, “I got to take a shower last night, and it was awesome.” (I’m assuming he normally takes baths.) What was funny to me was that no one thought anything was out of the ordinary with him sharing that during sharing time.
Special Activities: We started swimming for P.E. this week, and students absolutely love being able to swim. It’s really helping them learn swimming basics, too.
Academics: This week in math we practiced fractions and counting mixed coins. In writing, we reviewed the different kind of “stop signs” (periods, questions marks, and exclamation marks) we can use and what they mean. Our reading and spelling focus was ending –ed (-ed at the end of words can say –id, t, or d). In social studies, we talked about our court system. For the next two weeks, two students get to be the “class cops” each day to catch students misbehaving. Then the jury (the rest of the class) votes right before recess to see if they are guilty or not. Then the judge (me) decides the sentence. This week for science, we practiced and prepared for our “science magic show” that we will perform in May.
