Funny Sayings from Kids: One student had light up earrings. I said that she should turn them off to save the batteries on them. She said, “These run by this button-not by batteries!!’
When we spread our desks out so students won’t copy during tests, we call it “cracking the egg.” When we put our desks back together last time, one student said, “Here we go-glue-ing the egg together!”
Students got a huge kick out of the names of things this week...such as "There was a president with the last name of bush!" and "There were two presidents with the last name of bush!" My class got the giggles from this and couldn't stop laughing for about five minutes. Also, they enjoyed the name of our snack one day..."call-a-flower" as they put it.
After lunch one day, a girl said, "Look at my full tummy" I must have a baby in there."
We have Samurai readers at our school. One student told me he had a friend in another school that asked him if that is the same as black belt in karate.
Special Activities: This week we had an awesome Valentine’s party. Thank you to all those who helped! We also had a dental hygienist come teach our class about healthy teeth care.
Academics: This week in math we learned how to order numbers up to 100, count by 100’s, and figure out missing addends (3 + ? = 5). We did a lot of Valentine’s writing this week. We are still reinforcing having complete sentences yet not run-on sentences. Our reading and spelling focus was ending blends again (two consonants at the end of a word). In social studies, we talked a lot about the presidents in honor of the upcoming President’s Day. Unfortunately, we didn’t do much science this week. We did some Valentine’s day art projects instead.
