Week 29

Student with a reading volunteer!
Our new Samurai reader!
Students doing a play they made up to go along with a book

We had another adventurous week of learning!

Special Activities: This week we didn't have any special activities.  The students did put together an impromptu play during recess.  In their play, one person was the narrator, and the rest acted out the story.  It was very impressive for having no adult help.
Funny Stuff From Kids: "I want to get a tongue ring because it'll keep my tongue from being able to say bad words when I get older."

"The swan on the video picks cuz of her eggs."  I had no clue what this student was talking about until I figured out that he meant that the swan pecks at things that try to get at its eggs.

Homework: Please help students keep up on their homework!

Social Studies: We talked about maps, including how they've changed over time.

Math: We talked about graphing.  The biggest new concept for the students was learning about bar graphs, but they all did very well.

Project Read/Spelling: This week we focused on -tch versus -ch words.  It is such a hard concept, but they've done well for how hard it is.  If there is time at the end of the year, we will revisit it.

Speedy Words and Rocket Math: Students are working hard to earn their ice cream party.  We've made some changes in how we do rocket math to help students master the facts better.

AR: Students keep progressing, and we got a new Samurai this week.

Writing: This week our writing focused on using action words instead of "are, is, was, etc." in sentences.

Science: For science this week we did a few experiments and watched a few short videos.  We learned about how tape is made, and we looked at the inside of a glue stick under a microscope.  We also did an experiment with static electricity using a balloon and Fun Dip.  Fun Dip sticks to the balloon in an interesting way when the balloon is charged with static electricity.
