We had a great week!
Funny Stuff From Kids: It’s funny how some teachers interchange the words “kids” and “students.” One of my students in particular must not know what the word student means. I said something about my students, and she said, “We’re not your students! We’re your kids!”
Homework: Please keep up on homework!
Social Studies: We had fun learning about various disabilities and how to be respectful towards individuals with disabilities.
Math: We’ve been practicing counting money. I’ve sort of taught this concept before, but we spent a lot more time on it this week.
Project Read/Spelling: This week we began two syllable words. Since it’s so tricky, we’ll be spending two weeks on it. We referred to words with more than one syllable as elephant words because you've got to cut an elephant up to try to eat it because it's so big. Similarly, you've got to chunk these words up to read or spell them. The students are really getting it quite well when it comes to reading, but spelling is another matter.
AR: Every student got their goal of 20 books this quarter! We’ll start over for next quarter. Also, we have four students that have earned their Samurai (80 books)!
Writing: Much of our writing this week was tied to science. We focused a little bit on describing things. We also reviewed what makes up a sentence.
Science: For science this week we did an experiment with eggs. We have one egg soaking in vinegar, one in hand sanitizer, and one in pop. We’re going to see how they differ after a few days of soaking. The students are really excited about this experiment.
We also did some fun activities revolving around the five senses.
