A Few Week 3/4 Pictures

Kids working on the "world's largest spelling train" (see week 3).

Student counting the number of papers we ended up with in "the world's largest spelling train"

We had a very brief party to celebrate the official "Mr. Smith" sign being put up on our door

Students have been giving me some excellent work to display in our classroom

I've been reading a short novel to the kids during quiet project time.  In the book a boy named Nick--much to his English teacher's dismay--makes up the  new word "frindle" to replace "pen." In this picture my class is posing with their "frindles!"

One of our science activities was to weigh a chosen rock versus a chosen seashell and predict (make a hypothesis) about which would weigh more.
1st graders are so clever!  My adult mind sees letter magnets and automatically starts making words.  Some students incorporated the math skill of classifying instead.
